SUMMER PARTY 2024
GRIMSTHORPE CASTLE
We held a wonderful Summer Party recently, at Grimsthorpe Castle on the evening of Friday 12th July, as guests of our President Lady Jane Willoughby who joined us for the event.
The weather was kind to us, and it stayed dry, so some of the guests who arrived early took the opportunity to take a wander in the beautiful gardens in the evening air. Then at 6.30 the party started with a sparkling reception at which glasses of fizz were enjoyed and the chance was taken to chat with old friends and new acquaintances.
This was followed by a delightful and humorous performance, in two halves, of excerpts from various Gilbert and Sullivan operettas, some familiar to all and some not so well known. They were all performed with peerless musicality and theatricality by the small but versatile group of singers. We all understood, by the end, why they are widely regarded as one of the finest interpreters of Gilbert and Sullivan’s work.
In the interval between the two halves guests were treated to a delicious fork supper prepared by our Chairman, Henrietta Reeve, of fish pie followed by seasonal strawberries and cream, all washed down by further liquid refreshments.
The evening ended with hearty applause from the audience and the singers were thanked for their wonderful performance.
We feel privileged to have experienced this marvellous evening in the splendour of the Vanbrugh Hall at Grimsthorpe Castle, for which we are most grateful to Lady Jane and everybody at Grimsthorpe, who went out of their way again to do everything possible to make us welcome.
