Paint a Picture
The Lincolnshire Churches Trust Art Competition is run every two years, and the next one will be in 2013. The first event was in 2009, followed by 2011.
You don’t need to be an expert to enter! Most entrants are amateurs.
The Subject is: a Lincolnshire church and its immediate surroundings.
It can be any two-dimensional artwork in a medium of your choice. Maximum size A2 framed.
You can choose to do an exterior view in landscape, a close-up of any part of the church, inside or out, or any interpretation that inspires you. Lincolnshire has such a variety of beautiful and interesting buildings that you will find a wealth of material to work from.
The prizes are kindly sponsored by the Society for all Artists www.saa.co.uk and there are awards for children’s entries as well as for adults.
The way it works is that you send a photograph or copy of your picture to the organiser before the deadline (likely to be March 2013) with a small Entry Fee, and are then invited to the exhibition and judging process.
DETAILS OF THE 2013 EXHIBITION WILL BE AVAILABLE NEARER THE TIME
In 2011, 80 pictures were submitted of a very wide range of churches from all over the county.
The winner was Sadie McGlone of Claypole with her picture of Ancaster seen through its tall thrift flowers. (see picture below)
The Runner-up was Tina Negus of Grantham, whose picture of “Westborough church in Winter” features on the new Christmas 2011 card sold in aid of the Trust.
Children’s artwork is always welcome, and this year’s winner was William Chesters-Thompson with his painted clay relief. (see picture below)
The runner-up was Sadie’s older son Dylan McGlone, and his younger brother’s work was also highly commended. A talented family!
The exhibition of all the paintings was held in two venues this time: the Central Library in Lincoln, and the church in Gosberton in the south of the county. This meant that more people from around the large county of Lincolnshire were able to see all the excellent work.
