SECRETARY’S REPORT AUGUST 2016

2016 has been a very successful year for events so far, with excellent attendances at the majority of them and positive feedback from those who did so.

I am pleased to announce the appointment, at our AGM in March this year, of a new Trustee, the Reverend Michael Cartwright.  Michael served as Vicar of Market Rasen, and three other small country parishes, for 25 years prior to his retirement in December 2012, following which he moved to Welbourn in 2013 and now assists the Rector in the Welbourn group.  Michael hopes to help to strengthen and build the Trust’s group of supporters and helpers around the diocese, and particularly in the northern parts where he still has many friends and contacts.

We are also delighted to welcome Dr Christopher Brightman of Wellingore, who has recently joined our Fundraising Committee and is keen to get involved in helping to organise our ongoing programme of events.

There is then our annual Ride and Stride day on Saturday 10th September.  This remains one of our most important fundraising events of the whole year and we are very grateful to Trustee Nic Ridley, assisted by Sarah Roberts, for all the hard work they put in throughout the year preparing for this day.  We hope that as many of you as possible will be able to participate by riding, running or striding and will encourage friends, relatives, children and grandchildren to do so.  Please do take this opportunity to get out for a healthy day visiting some of our beautiful churches and see our countryside in all its autumn splendour.  Looking further ahead we desperately need help from more deanery organisers so if you feel you might be able to help in this way next year, acting as a local point of contact and distributing posters and sponsorship forms, please do let Nic or Sarah know.  Their contact details are given on the “events” section of this website.

For the first time this year we are able to offer a new customised cycle route around the Calcewaithe and Candleshoe deanery (Skegness area) which has kindly been put together for us by Keith Batchelor and which can be downloaded from the “events” section, for the modest price of £4 donation towards Trust funds.  We are trialling the idea this year and, if there is a good response, we will try to extend such guides to other deaneries in future years, so any feedback from users will be most welcome in due course.

Looking further ahead we have the Autumn Party coming up, which is being held this year at Sleaford St Denys church on Thursday October 13th.  Fuller details are given in the “events” section of the website.

Finally I am happy to advise that our two new Christmas cards for this year have been printed and will soon be packed ready for ordering by post and distribution to our usual sales outlets at the Cards for Good Causes shops at Lincoln St Mary le Wigford, Stamford St John and Louth St James churches, which usually open for business in about mid October.  WE are not able to sell through the Grantham shop this year.  Our popular desk calendar for 2017, featuring illustrations of a dozen churches from around the county, is also in production.  They all remain excellent value and offer an ideal opportunity to inform your friends and relatives of what a wonderful store of beautiful churches we have around the county.  Details for ordering all of these will be posted on the website shortly and included in the next newsletter.
